Project Limits
Pine Island Road to Kismet Parkway

Project Description
Del Prado Boulevard road construction involves the widening of the existing roadway from four to six lanes beginning just south of Pine Island Road to just north of Kismet Parkway. The project is scheduled to be built in five phases and will take approximately three years in its entirety.

These are:
  1. Phase I: Off-site bridges--NE 14th Place and NE 17th Place (crossing Jaguar Canal) - Complete
  2. Phase II: Mainline Bridge---Del Prado Boulevard over Jaguar Canal - On Going
  3. Phase III: Off-site Bridge—NE 16th Place over Zurich Canal - Complete
  4. Phase IV: Mainline Bridge—Del Prado Boulevard over Zurich Canal - On Going
  5. Phase V: Roadway—Del Prado Boulevard to Kismet Parkway* - Fall 2008
(Phase V roadway improvements are still in the design phase)*

In addition to widening Del Prado Boulevard, the project includes widening of two existing bridges and the construction of three new bridges. Improvements to the roadway widening include expanded right-of-way, landscaping, paved multi-use paths, street lighting, curbing and new traffic signals.

The bridge construction is preceding road construction which began in March of 2007. Improvements to the bridges prior to the roadway reconstruction will help minimize traffic disruptions and also allows for limiting the length of the construction zone. Critical to this train of events is the acquisition of right-of-ways by the city which is currently underway and the relocation of private and public utilities throughout the corridor.
