S.R. 78 (Pine Island Road) to Cape Coral Parkway

Design Project Description:
The design of Chiquita Boulevard involves widening of the existing roadway from four to six lanes beginning just south of S.R. 78 (Pine Island Road) to Cape Coral Parkway.

This project is to be designed in phases:

• Phase I - from Veterans Memorial Parkway to S.R. 78 (Pine Island Road)


• Phase II - from north of Cape Coral Parkway to Veterans Memorial Parkway

Design Scope of Work
This project is part of the City of Cape Coral Five Year Road Improvement Projects. The proposed improvements are designed to improve safety and traffic flow through the area. Chiquita Boulevard is to be widened to six lanes, three lanes in each direction (northbound and southbound). The anticipated design will have three, 12-foot travel lanes, six-foot sidewalks, landscaping, and new signals and street lighting. An enclosed curb and gutter storm sewer system will replace the existing open-swale ditch drainage system.

Design Schedule
Work began in October of 2007

Completion Date
Design is expected to be completed by the end of 2008

Construction Management services are being provided by Balfour Beatty Construction
